UELBC’s elite rowing scholars won gold at last weekend’s British Universities Colleges Sport (BUCS) 4s & 8s Head, following a dominant display on the River Witham, Boston.UELBC’s boat, which consisted of Peter Hardcastle, Alan Sinclair, Martins Etem and Tom Wilkinson, completed the 5,000 meter course in an impressive time of 16:48.9min, some 31 seconds ahead of their opponents to claim victory.Tom Wilkinson said: “We knew Loughborough and Durham were going to be our main competition. They went out hard and we could see them gaining on us during the first half of the race. We paced ourselves really well, stayed strong and pulled away during the second half. The last kilometre was really tough, but in the end we beat them by 31 seconds. The race went to plan; we gave them a real beating.”
18 crews competed in the final of the time trial in Lincolnshire, with UEL beating Loughborough into second and Cardiff into third.
