The UEL Boat Club (UELBC) is one of the most successful sports clubs at the University of East London. Its repeated success at BUCS and European University (EUSA) competitions is complimented by a lively social scene and considerable support and training for novice or intermediate rowers. The club maintains a high standard of sportsmanship with training regimes tailored to each squad’s ability.
As well as access to boat club equipment, UELBC members have access to extensive training facilities located on campus at the university and at the London Regatta Centre, this includes the erg room, weights room and the tank.
UEL opened Sports Dock in 2012, its new state of the art sport facility on Docklands campus has provided us with a fantastic indoor training area with, circuits, strength and conditioning and erg sessions.
Membership not only gives students the tools necessary for success on the water – from high quality equipment to dedicated coaches and training programs – but also gives each member the support they need to push themselves to be successful in the sport. UELBC hosts a number of social events through the year and encourages everyone to socialize outside of training.
We have been incredibly lucky to have a new full-time coach to develop our novice and intermediate squads and to lead us to greater success then we have managed so far. In May 2015 we entered our first Women’s 8+ into the BUCS regatta with them surpassing any expectations we all had, following the growth and success of the club we are aiming to enter a number of crews into both the Women’s and Men’s Henley in June/July 2016.
UELBC prides its self in welcoming new members to the club, we not only provide a quality Learn2Row course for beginners over 4 weeks but we also now have the opportunity for the public, ex UEL students and UEL staff to join as Open Club Members!
